Leone Stars TM heads to Austria for Drugs & Crime confab

Sierra Leone’s National Team Manager, Christian Dauda is joining the country’s Sports Minister and Director of Sports to this year’s United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) conference at the Vienna International Centre, Vienna, Austria.

“Safeguarding Sports and Corruption” is the theme for the two-day conference starting tomorrow. It aims at finding ways to safeguard sports from significant risks posed by corruption and criminality, sources have confirmed to this medium.

Dauda, speaking ahead of the meeting said the convention against corruption is a welcoming strategy to safeguard not only football but sports in general.

He thanked the new Sports Minister, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and the Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura for involving him in what he describes as, “such an important global gathering.”

Issues to be discussed at the conference include; specific challenges associated with the organization of sports events; Public Procurement and Sports Events; Match-fixing and how it can be addressed and, detection of corruption and enforcement among others.
