George Davies became the first Sierra Leonean, to win two trophies in Latvia the same season in history and afterwards, claimed he is ‘over the moon’.
Only four years after Riga FC was founded, they won their first Latvian football title on Sunday, just eleven days after winning the Latvian Cup.
He joined Austrian Football Bundesliga side, SKN St Pölten on a free transfer in July 2017 from German second league side; SpVgg Greuther Fürth on a three-year deal.
Davies struggled in Austria, where he played only seven matches at St Pölten before he was sent on loan.
The 21-year-old said that despite a difficult period this triumph caps off a good 2018 for him and the club.
He told FootballSierraLeone.Net: “I’m over the moon and I am very thankful to God; this means a lot to me and my family.”
“George Davies is the player from Sierra Leone, that was part of the club’s first ever double winning season.”
“It was difficult and tough for me in Austria at times, but it’s a different story now after playing more games winning titles. I will say it came good at the end,” Davies explained.
He made 20 appearances for the club including two Europe League games winning the Latvian Cup and Virsliga title respectively.
“Winning a title or be part of a successful team, is every player’s dream.”
“I have gone through some difficult moments but as a professional, I have always believed.”
“I hope this is a new beginning for further success.”
The Sierra Leone international was not part of Riga’s side that defeated Ventspils in the Cup Finals on penalties (5-4) on Wednesday, October 24th, but played in previous matches.
He played in their 2-0 away win over Valmieras 2-0 on Sunday the day they were crowned as Champions.
