South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, CR Belouizdad, Petro de Luanda and Zamalek are the first four teams to reach this year’s CAF Champions League group stage after impressive results.
The 2016 Champions, Sundowns impressively hammered Seychelles champions La Passe 15-1 over two legs to progress. They had won the first leg 7-0 last weekend to put one foot in the group phase.
In Alexandria, Egyptian giants Zamalek proved too strong for Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre sealing through with a 5-1 thumping on the day 6-1 on aggregate.
Algerian side CR Belouizdad overcame their Malian counterparts Djoliba AC 4-1 on aggregate after a 2-0 home triumph on Friday.
Angola’s Petro de Luanda 1-0 victory over Cape Town City means they join the party with a 4-1 aggregate scoreline following their first leg 3-0 win last week.
Cape Town, La Passe, Djoliba and Flambeau still have a place in the continent’s second-tier club competition as they make the second additional preliminary round in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
