Sierra Leone head coach John Keister guided his side to their first victory in Group A of the 2023 qualifying campaign in the race to Ivory Coast next year.
Goals from Abubakarr Samura and Alhassan Koroma were enough after their much-improved tactic in the 2-0 win over Sao Tome on Sunday at the Agadir Stadium in Morocco.
As a result, the Leone Stars are one point behind Nigeria, and two behind Guinea Bissau, who will host the Super Eagles in the other group match on Monday in Bissau.
“I was pleased, but we now have to remain focused ahead of our remaining games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissua,” he told FSL News.
Today’s performance from every player was much better than the first leg. We knew we had to change a few things to secure maximum results.
The Manchester-born added, “There is plenty of work to be done ahead of the two remaining games. Difficult games, but we have to fight to compete in the AFCON next year.”
