Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen delivered standout performances as Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Nigeria assumed control from the outset, with Lookman securing the opening goal in the first half, followed by a superb goal from Osimhen, extending their lead.
Lookman concluded the victory with a third goal, securing a decisive win for the Super Eagles. Lookman broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, demonstrating composure and skill in front of goal.
The Benin defence struggled to contain Nigeria’s attacking prowess as Osimhen doubled the lead with a remarkable solo effort in the 55th minute. His goal ignited the crowd, showcasing his lethal finishing ability.
As the match progressed, Benin’s Cheetahs could not respond, and Lookman added his second goal of the evening in the 78th minute, solidifying Nigeria’s commanding lead.

Elsewhere, In the AFCON qualifier Group J, Cameroon defeated Namibia 1-0, with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the only goal in the 65th minute. Despite both teams having further chances, the score remained 1-0, giving Cameroon a strong start to their qualifying campaign.
On the other hand, in Nouakchott Group C, Mauritania secured a last-minute 1-0 victory over Botswana, with Sidi Amar scoring the crucial goal in the 84th minute.
