Ivorian footballer Sébastien Haller has the chance to join an elite group of African players who have won the UEFA Champions League final stage if Borussia Dortmund wins on June 1st.
The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final will take place at London’s historic Wembley Stadium. This is the 69th season of Europe’s elite club competition and the 32nd since it was renamed the UEFA Champions League.
If they do, Haller will become one of the rare Africans to lift the coveted Champions League trophy. Other iconic Ivorian players such as Didier Drogba, Yaya Touré, and Salomon Kalou have already claimed this prestigious honour.
Haller will follow in the footsteps of these legendary players, but Touré and Kalou are the only Ivorian footballers to have achieved the remarkable double of clinching both the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the UEFA Champions League.
Since 2015, no Ivorian player has managed to achieve this feat, which makes Haller’s potential accomplishment all the more significant. Sébastien Haller, who recently won the CAN 2023 with the Ivory Coast national team, is now aiming for continental glory with Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
Winning the final would secure Haller’s place in footballing history and mark his first title triumph with BVB.
The opponent for the final will be decided after the return leg of the semi-final match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. The first leg ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, and everyone is eagerly anticipation.
