Sierra Leone native Bangura-Williams pens long-term deal with Millwall

Sierra Leone native Raees Bangura-Williams has signed a new long-term contract with The Den. The 20-year-old will continue with The Lions following his impressive start.

Bangura-Williams made his debut in January during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round, scoring just 10 minutes after coming on against Dagenham & Redbridge.

His father is an amateur football manager originally from Sierra Leone, currently based in Park Langley.

“I’m grateful for all the support and have more to give. It’s an honour to be here,” he said, noting the season has been life-changing and that Millwall is the right place for him to develop.

In 13 appearances, he has impressed fans with several assists, including key plays against Cardiff City and Portsmouth. His performance earned him a call-up to England’s Elite League Squad.

Despite missing the end of the 2024/25 season due to injury, he is determined to earn a place in Alex Neil’s starting lineup for the 2025/26 season.

Millwall’s Director of Football, Steve Gallen, praised Ra’ees’ inspiring journey to the first team and expressed excitement about his contract signing as a reward for his hard work. Gallen noted that Ra’ees represents the club’s future and thanked James Berylson and Alex Neil for their support in finalizing the deal.

Striker Alie Conteh Nets Hat-trick for Mjondalen IF

Sierra Leone international Alie Conteh scored a hat-trick as Mjondalen IF defeated Strømmen 3-1 in the Norwegian NM Cupen third round on Wednesday, advancing to the fourth round for the first time since 2019.

The young MIF team conceded a goal from a set piece, and against a team in the flow zone, it could be difficult to turn things around.

Conteh’s Mjøndalen pressed Strømmen and equalised just before halftime when Jonas Bruusgaard’s cross was tapped in by Conteh. Alie Conteh smelled the opportunity and elegantly tipped the ball into the goal with his right foot. Thus, it was 1-1 at halftime.

In the second half, Conteh capitalised on another Bruusgaard pass, striking the ball past the goalkeeper to give Mjondalen the lead.

Despite Strømmen’s late pressure, Mjondalen’s defence held firm. In stoppage time, Conteh completed his hat-trick, sealing the victory with a clinical finish after breaking past three defenders.

Minnesota United sign Sierra Leone U20 star Momoh I Kamara on loan

Minnesota United has confirmed a one-year loan signing of Sierra Leone’s U20 Cup of Nations star Momoh I Kamara from Mattia Football Club through December 2025, with an option to buy. Once Kamara gets his P-1 Visa, he will be joining MNUFC2.

“Momoh is an exciting young player with a natural feel for the game, capable of creating scoring threats,” said Amos Magee, MNUFC’s Head of Development. “We look forward to him joining MNUFC2 and building on his national team succes,” the club said in their statement.

Kamara expressed his excitement about joining, stating, “This is a dream come true and a significant step forward in my career. I’m ready to give my all for the fans and my teammates.”

Khaled El-Ahmad, MNUFC Chief Soccer Officer, praised the recruitment team for successfully adding talent like Kamara, Putt, and Kabia, highlighting the promising future for the club.

Momoh Kamara began his playing career at a young age with Mattia FC, where he played from 2017 to 2022. He briefly played for Diamond Stars Football Club in 2022-2023 before moving to Leixões SC B, competing with the Portuguese team from 2023 to 2024. Following his time at Leixões, he returned to Mattia FC before joining MNUFC2.

Internationally, Kamara has represented Sierra Leone at nearly every level, starting with the U17 team and progressing to the U20 and senior national teams. He is currently competing alongside MNUFC2 teammate Alpha Kabia in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In the first three matches of the group stage, Kamara has scored three goals, notably a hat trick against Egypt on April 30, helping propel his country to the top of the group and secure a berth in the quarterfinals. 

The 19-year-old also made appearances for the senior team in March 2025 during two FIFA World Cup qualifier games, playing in group stage matches against Guinea-Bissau and Egypt.

Striker Amadou Bakayoko aids Sapporo win over Montedio Yamagata

Sierra Leonean international Amadou Bakayoko delivered a stunning performance for his Japanese J League 2 team, Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, scoring the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Montedio Yamagata at the NDsoft Stadium in Yamagata on Saturday.

Bakayoko’s strike, his third goal of the new campaign, proved crucial in securing three vital points for his side, propelling them up to twelfth place in the standings following a challenging start to the season.

The decisive goal came in the 56th minute when Bakayoko expertly received a well-timed pass, demonstrating composure as he slotted the ball home to give his team the lead. This moment would ultimately seal the win for Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, marking a significant turnaround in their fortunes.

On July 28, 2024, Bakayoko signed with Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo as they made their bid to return to J1 League competition. He made an impactful debut on August 16, coming on as a substitute and marking his presence with a goal from the penalty spot in an exhilarating 5-3 victory over Sagan Tosu. Despite facing relegation the previous season, Bakayoko’s contributions are already making waves in the team’s quest for redemption.

Consadole Sapporo next outing in the round fourteen of the J League 2 is when they hosts Júbilo Iwata on Tuesday.

Osman Kamara of Arsenal talks on his Sierra Leone U20 AFCON debut

Debutant for Sierra Leone and Arsenal young Osman Kamara talked about his first game with Coach Mohamed L Kamara’s U20 Cup of Nations squad following the 0-0 tie with Zambia at the Suez Canal Stadium on Sunday.

The Arsenal U21 player was subbed on in the 85th minute and said he was pleased to be able to help the team. “My first game against Zambia especially since it was our Independence Day, I really cherished that moment.

He added, I was grateful to have those minutes with the team.” On his experience with the team, Kamara noted that he was warmly welcomed and has built a strong connection with his teammates as they prepare for the upcoming match against Egypt.

Looking forward, Kamara is positive: “I think we will show well against a hard Egypt team. As a group, we are trying hard to do better in our next match. I can help to improve the team’s level since coming from Arsenal, an English top club.”

Along with two assists, Osman struck nine goals in 14 games in the U18 Premier League during his best goalscoring season in 2023/24. He also got useful experience in the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League and 2 for the under-21s, Premier League.

The flexible forward has been an Arsenal fan since birth and can play a more middle role in front. Having signed his first official contract with the team last summer, Osman can play internationally for either Sierra Leone or England Senior A teams.

Josh Koroma nets in Hudderfield defeat to Exeter

Sierra Leone’s Josh Koroma was on target as Exeter concluded their season with an impressive 3-1 victory over Huddersfield in their final home game of the League One season.

The Terriers opened the scoring after 20 minutes with their first shot on goal. Hudderfield’s Josh Koroma found space on the left and curled an excellent finish into the far corner from 20 yards.

Exeter equalized in the 39th minute when Jack McMillan broke free down the right wing and delivered a low cross into the box. Ilmari Niskanen made a timely run to the back post and fired the ball past goalkeeper Jacob Chapman.

The second half was entertaining, with Sonny Cox being denied by Chapman and Joe Whitworth coming to Exeter’s rescue with a fine save against Koroma.

From the resulting corner, Herbie Kane volleyed a stunning effort into the bottom corner, but it was disallowed for offside. Exeter took the lead in the 56th minute when McMillan scored after finishing smartly from a long throw by Alex Hartridge, which was flicked on by Angus MacDonald.

Whitworth continued to shine with a superb one-handed save against Koroma, while Matty Pearson had a header that struck the crossbar.

Sierra Leone’s Mustapha Bundu continues fine form as Plymouth fight survival

Despite beating Preston North End, who have only one victory in their last 14 matches, Plymouth Argyle met almost certain relegation from the Championship; Mustapha Bundu of Sierra Leone scored his 11th goal of the season in all competitions.

Luton Town’s win over Coventry City meant Argyle needed to win both of their remaining matches and significantly improve their goal difference to avoid relegation. Although Mustapha Bundu scored in the first half, followed by Callum Wright’s goal after the break, Argyle’s fate is likely sealed barring an unlikely turn of events.

Preston, despite dominating possession and creating chances, could only score a late goal from Emil Riis, leaving them one point above the relegation zone. Derby County’s victory over Hull City pushed them ahead of Preston, while Luton is also on 49 points, one point clear of the relegation spot.

Despite a strong start, Argyle’s confidence was shaken after Bundu’s goal. Preston created opportunities, but they struggled to find the back of the net. A misplay allowed Wright to score, securing the win for Argyle as they held on through six minutes of added time to record only their 11th victory in 45 matches.

Mustapha Bundu brace helps Plymouth increase Championship survival hopes

Plymouth, facing relegation, surprised play-off contenders Coventry by achieving their third straight home win, thanks to two goals from Mustapha Bundu and Ryan Hardie, boosting their chances of survival in the Sky Bet Championship.

Bundu scored his second goal of the afternoon 20 minutes into the second half, ensuring Plymouth secured all three points.

Coventry had an early chance to take the lead in the 12th minute when an unmarked Joel Latibeaudiere missed an opportunity to score, firing wide from the far post after receiving a corner from Jack Rudoni.

Plymouth’s first threat came from a well-coordinated move down the left side, initiated by Darko Gyabi. Bali Mumba delivered an excellent cross to top scorer Hardie, who claimed he was fouled as he attempted to connect from a challenging angle, allowing City keeper Bradley Collins to easily gather the ball.

In the 23rd minute, Hardie nearly scored when Bundu cut in from the left and shot, with Hardie just getting a touch that sent the ball inches past the post. Collins faced more pressure when he fumbled a cross, but the referee ruled a foul on Tijani.

Mumba came close to a spectacular goal in the 31st minute with a twisting run and a curling chip attempt over Collins that missed the far post.

Bundu, who received a yellow card for a foul earlier, opened the scoring in the 40th minute. After a corner was cleared, he half-volleyed a cut-back from Randell into the net from a tight angle, beating Collins at the near post.

Sierra Leone’s Amadou Bakayoko made his mark on the pitch as he netted a crucial goal for Consadole Sapporo in their recent Japanese League 2 match against Fujieda MYFC.

The match, held on Sunday, saw Consadole Sapporo triumph with a scoreline of 2-1, marking their fourth victory of the league season.

Bakayoko’s impressive performance included scoring his second goal of the season, beautifully placed in the back of the net in the 54th minute. His strategic positioning and skillful execution were a testament to his growing influence in the team.

After contributing significantly to the game, he was substituted in the 67th minute, leaving the field to applause from the fans who recognized his effort.

Takumi Kusumoto had opened the scorin for the vistors in the seven moniute but Katsuyuki Tanaka draw pairty in half hour mark. Bakayko’s winner was enough as they moved four points from the relegation zone.

Mustapha Bundu on target as Plymouth Argyle’s relegation crisis deepens

Sierra Leone International scored for Plymouth Argyle, but his goal was not enough as their relegation crisis deepened after another 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on Friday.

Tommy Conway’s injury-time penalty goal sent Middlesbrough fans into celebration, while Plymouth Argyle supporters were left in disbelief.

Conway scored a 93rd-minute penalty, helping Middlesbrough maintain their hopes of reaching the Championship playoffs against bottom-placed Plymouth Argyle. The penalty was awarded after Argyle captain Joe Edwards pushed Conway over, resulting in Edwards being sent off.

This defeat brought Argyle closer to relegation, as they remain three points below Derby County in 21st place, with a significantly worse goal difference and only three matches left to play.

For Middlesbrough, the victory was crucial, especially with both Bristol City and Coventry City winning their matches. Middlesbrough moved up to seventh place, but they are still three points behind Coventry.

Ex-Argyle loanee Finn Azaz had initially put Middlesbrough in front early in the match, but Mustapha Bundu equalized just five minutes later. Both teams had opportunities to win before Conway’s 13th goal of the season ultimately secured the victory for Middlesbrough.
