Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice, helping Gabon win 2-1 against Kenya and reach the top of Group F. In another World Cup 2026 qualifying match, Eswatini and Mauritius ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw on Sunday.

Aubameyang gave Gabon an early lead in Nairobi. He scored a second goal from a penalty in the second half.

Kenya answered with a goal from Michael Olunga around the 60-minute mark, but Gabon held on to win and earn three important points.

Seventeen-year-old John Bilili Sesay, a player for local Sierra Leone Premier League club Bhantal FC, made his international debut during a 3-1 win against Guinea-Bissau in World Cup qualifying on Thursday in Liberia’s capital.

Sesay made a strong impression after being substituted on for Salford City midfielder Tyrese Fornah in the 72nd minute during his debut for Sierra Leone.

This performance was the perfect boost for Sesay, who has been impressive for Bhantal this season. “I’m delighted to have finally made my Sierra Leone debut,” Sesay said. “I felt good, I felt comfortable, and it’s a really happy moment for me.”

“A debut and a victory in a World Cup qualifier is a huge bonus for the entire Bhantal management.”

Next up for Sesay and his team is a trip to Cairo, Egypt, where they will face Mohamed Salah’s Pharaohs on matchday six of the qualifiers for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Coach Mohamed Kallon’s team will be up against the Group A leaders on Tuesday, following their recent victory against Guinea-Bissau in Liberia’s capital.

Striker Amadou Bakayoko records first Hokkaido Sapporo goal of the season

Sierra Leone International Amadou Bakayoko recorded his first goal of the season in Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo’s 2-1 win over Ehime FC at the Ningineer Stadium in week six of the JLeague 2.

It’s a back-to-back win for the first time for Bakoyok’s side in the Japanese second-tier league. As a result, they continue to move up the table to fifteen after a poor start to the season.

Japanese footballer Kimiya Moriyama had opened the scoring for the host team in the 9th minute, but the visitors held to level the scoring through Bakayoko in the 36th minute.

Bakoyoko was substituted in the 56th minute and replaced by Gun-Hee Kim as the team searched for the winning goal.

The South Korean player Kim Gun-Hee, who left Suwon to join Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in the J1 League, scored the decisive goal in the 82nd minute.

The Moroccan U20 national team won a friendly match against Sierra Leone 2-0 at the Mohammed VI Complex on Saturday night, with goals scored by Ismail Al-Aoud and Adnan Kharoubi.

Both nations used this match as part of their preparation for the upcoming African Cup Of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Sierra Leone has made significant changes by bringing in several foreign-based players to identify those who can make the final list for the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast next month.

Notable players starting for Sierra Leone in a friendly match against Morocco include Samal Bangura from Tottenham Hotspur, Cayden Cole from Hull City, David Kalokoh from AFC Ajax, Kelvin Kargbo from AFC Wimbledon, and Hindolo Mustapha from Crystal Palace Football Club.

Sierra Leone’s next match is against Ghana on Saturday, March 25, where they aim to build on their performance before the continental tournament.

The stakes are high, as the four teams reaching the semi-finals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will earn spots in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which will take place in Chile. Senegal’s Junior Teranga Lions enter the competition as the defending champions.

Mohamed Salah scores as Egypt ease past Ethiopia in World Cup Qualifiers

Egypt secured another significant victory, solidifying its position at the top of Group A in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers. The Pharaohs continued their perfect run in Group A with a comfortable 2-0 win over Ethiopia in El Jadida, Morocco.

Egypt took control early in the match, with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah scoring the first goal in the 31st minute after a well-executed move involving Hamdy Fathi. Nine minutes later, Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” doubled the lead, taking advantage of a defensive error from Ethiopia.

Although Ethiopia showed some resistance after halftime, Hossam Hassan’s team was never seriously threatened, and the score remained unchanged throughout the match.

Egypt now has 13 points from five matches, leading second-placed Burkina Faso by five points, and they are nearing qualification for the 2026 finals in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

It was another disappointing result for Ethiopia, leaving them with just three points from five games and vastly diminishing their hopes of qualification.

Eric Chelle praises Nigeria’s performance after defeating Rwanda

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle praised his players after their 2-0 win against the Amavubi of Rwanda.

Nigeria matchday five tie took place at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday night and marked the Super Eagles’ first victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series. With this win, the team moved up to fourth place in Group C.

In his post-match remarks, Chelle said, “It was a tough game; Rwanda has a strong team. I am proud of my players. We worked hard in the few days leading up to this match, although we only had two full training sessions. However, we controlled the ball well in the second half. It was a solid performance from my players.”

Chelle also mentioned his team’s strategy and the need for improvement. He stated, “I enjoy setting up the game plan. We tried two different tactics. This is just the first game, and we need to improve as we prepare for the next one.”

Djibouti’s Samuel Akinbinu managed to pull one back with a consolation goal from the penalty spot in the 88th minute.

Group leaders Egypt will face Ethiopia later in the final match of group stage five.

On matchday six, Burkina Faso will travel to meet Guinea-Bissau at Estádio 24 de Setembro, while Ethiopia will host Djibouti at Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi. Additionally, Sierra Leone will entertain Egypt in Cairo on Tuesday.

Moses Sesay marks his England’s U18 debut with a goal

Sierra Leone native Moses Sesay scored on his England’s under-18 men’s debut as they came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Czechia in their first match of the calendar year.

The Young Lions fell behind in the first half of the international fixture held at Estadio de Sao Miguel. Just before halftime, Filip Ruzicka scored for Czechia, giving them the lead. The FC Viktoria Plzen forward’s shot deflected off a defender, sending goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff the wrong way and finding the back of the net.

However, Liam Bramley’s side fought back strongly in the second half. After seeing an initial effort cleared off the line, Moses Sesay marked his debut with a goal, levelling the score with a spectacular overhead bicycle kick just after the halftime mark, making it 1-1 in the 49th minute.

England took the lead with 75 minutes on the clock when they were awarded a penalty. Baylee Dipepa, Sesay’s club teammate, confidently stepped up to take the spot-kick and successfully converted it from 12 yards after coming off the bench, putting the Young Lions ahead 2-1.

Yet, there was one final twist in the match. In the 89th minute, Czechia equalized when Pavlo Simon pounced on a rebound after Whatmuff made an initial save. The match ended in a 2-2 draw in Portugal.

Mali thrash Comoros in Group I CAF World Cup Qualifying tie

Newly appointed Tom Saintfiet guided Mali to a vital 3-0 victory over Comoros on Thursday night during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. This victory gives Mali a better chance to qualify and changes the standings in Group I.

Nene Dorgeles and Kamory Doumbia scored goals in the Moroccan city of Berkane, helping Mali move up to fourth place with eight points, just two points behind the leaders, Madagascar. Comoros, who was at the top of the group before this game, is now in third place with nine points.

Mali started the match strong, scoring the first goal in the 20th minute. Dorgeles received a good pass from captain Yves Bissouma and shot past goalkeeper Yannick Pandor.

Comoros tried to fight back. Faïz Selemani took a long-range free kick that tested Malian goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, but Mali kept their defence strong.

In the second half, Mali played with more energy. In the 55th minute, El Bilal Touré crossed the ball into the box, and Kamory Doumbia found the empty net.

Just eight minutes later, Doumbia scored again with another assist from Bissouma, making it clear that the game was in Mali’s control. Comoros struggled to find clear opportunities as Mali finished the game confidently.

This loss is a big setback for Comoros, who may fall further behind in the group.

In contrast, Mali’s win puts them back in the race for a World Cup spot, with three games left in the qualifiers. Madagascar stays on top with 10 points, but Ghana could take the lead if they win their next match against Chad.
