Striker Daniel Kanu nets to help Walsall draw at Fleetwood Town

Sierra Leone international Daniel Kanu scored for Walsall, helping them draw 1-1 with Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fleetwood scored first in the game, but Kanu equalised just ten minutes later. This draw extended Walsall’s unbeaten streak to four games across all competitions and marked their first goal against Fleetwood since 2016.

Head Coach Mat Sadler made one change to the team that won against Chesterfield last weekend. Charlie Lakin was suspended, so Courtney Clarke started in midfield.

Walsall had an early chance when Evan Weir’s free kick from 30 yards went over the bar. Fleetwood’s Ryan Graydon rounded Walsall’s keeper Myles Roberts in the 12th minute but was denied by defender Aden Flint. Graydon scored a header from a corner three minutes later.

Walsall equalised in the 25th minute when Flint set up Kanu for a close-range tap-in. They nearly took the lead after Lewis Warrington hit the woodwork with a shot from 25 yards.

Substitute Rico Richards almost scored on his debut, forcing a great save from Fleetwood’s Jay Lynch. Despite their efforts, the match ended in a draw.

Striker Augustine Williams named to USL Player of the Week

Pittsburgh Riverhounds forward Augi Williams has been named the USL Championship Player of the Week for Week 27 after scoring both goals in the team's 2-0 win over Oakland Roots SC on Sunday.

Williams scored the first goal just four minutes into the match, seizing a loose ball in the middle of the penalty area and finishing it with a low shot.

His second goal came from the penalty spot just before halftime, as he converted the penalty after being tripped at the top of the box. This two-goal performance also marked significant milestones for Williams, a veteran in his 10th year, now playing with the Hounds.

The first goal represented his 100th contribution in terms of goals and assists combined in the USL Championship regular season, and he currently ranks second on the league’s all-time scoring list with 83 goals.

In addition to his scoring in the victory against Oakland, Williams won 8 out of 10 aerial duels (totalling 12 out of 19 duels overall) and drew three fouls for the Hounds, which includes the penalty he earned in the first half.

Williams is the second player from the Hounds to receive the Player of the Week title this season, following Robbie Mertz, who received the accolade in Week 14.

Furthermore, Williams earned a position on the USL Championship Team of the Week, which featured Mertz on the bench after he created a match-high four chances, delivered nine total crosses, and achieved an impressive passing accuracy of 88.9 per cent during the win on Sunday.

Attacker Isaac Babadi joins Royal Antwerp on loan from PSV

Attacking midfielder Isaac Babadi has signed a season-long loan with Royal Antwerp from PSV Eindhoven.

The player is recognised as one of PSV’s most promising young talents; however, he has faced challenges in securing playing time under coach Peter Bosz.

With Guus Til, Joey Veerman, and Ismail Saibari occupying prominent positions in the team’s hierarchy, Babadi has opted to seek a loan opportunity this summer.

While a transfer within the Eredivisie was a consideration, he has ultimately chosen to join Royal Antwerp. The Belgian club has officially announced Babadi’s loan for the entire season, without the option for a permanent transfer.

At the age of 20, he aims to secure consistent playing time in the Jupiler League to demonstrate his capabilities and merit a position within the PSV squad for the following season.

Tyrese Fornah set for Sierra Leone World Cup qualifiers

Midfielder Tyrese Fornah will join up with the Sierra Leone squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures with Guinea-Bissau on Thursday, followed by Ethiopia on September 9th.

Although his name was not on the official list announced by the SLFA, Tyrese Fornah’s League One club, Northampton, has confirmed his availability.

Meanwhile, Football Sierra Leone understands the home-based delegation will depart Freetown today, as foreign-based players are already travelling to join the Leone Stars Camp.

A full assembly squad is expected by Tuesday in Guinea-Bissau for this decisive match that could shape the team’s journey towards the World Cup.

Guinea-Bissua v Sierra Leone will be officiated by a team of referees from the Ivory Coast at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

The Djurtus are looking to avenge the 3-1 defeat suffered at Sierra Leone back in March in the Liberian Capital at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Current Standings: Guinea-Bissau is two points adrift of Sierra Leone, currently in third place in their group with 8 points.

Juma Bah's Nice suffer a second French Ligue 1 defeat

Juma Bah’s Nice suffer second French Ligue 1 defeat

With a respectable 3-1 triumph against Nice, Le Havre AC got its first points of the season, therefore highlighting its dedication at home.

The Ciel Marine showed efficiency and tenacity after a hard defeat to RC Lens, with Fodé Doucouré scoring the opening goal in the 13th minute after a fantastic assist from Issa Soumaré.

In the photograph, Sierra Leone’s Juma Bah was on show as he played the full throttle of the contest, but his side suffered their second defeat in their French Ligue 1 games.

Since coming on loan from Manchester City, Bah, 19, has made his debut for his side. Doucouré’s hard work after Nice levelled the score early in the second half resulted in Rassoul Ndiaye scoring to reinstate the home team’s lead in the 61st minute, presenting unrelenting will.

Strategic substitutions by Coach Didier Digard created more possibilities as HAC kept pressing. The victory was sealed in stoppage time when Issa Soumaré found the net, much to the delight of the home crowd.

HAC kept composure with great performances from their defence, especially captain Sangante, despite Nice’s efforts to equalise.

As HAC gets ready to meet Strasbourg in two weeks, the victory lifts morale and guarantees more thrilling contests to come.
